Grootfontein Private Nature Reserve is a 1,200-hectare bushveld farm located less than three hours from Gauteng near the eco-tourism town of Thabazimbi. It is a fourth-generation working family farm that welcomes true lovers of the great African outdoors. The reserve operates entirely off-the-grid, utilizing solar power and gas. It offers rustic accommodation in four bush lodges and two campsites, each unique from one another, catering to short or long stays.

Guests can enjoy hot showers powered by paraffin, gas fridges, and solar-powered lights. The reserve features a tranquil and pristine bushveld landscape, home to over 150 species of birds, 160 species of trees, and a wide range of animals, including zebra, giraffe, kudu, impala, waterbuck, bushbuck, blue wildebeest, nyala, warthog, and leopard. Since the farm does not offer the Big 5, guests are free to explore the area on foot. It is also less than an hour's drive from the Pilanesburg and Marekele National Parks, where the Big 5 can be viewed.

Grootfontein Private Nature Reserve offers hiking, birding, 4x4 trails, kayaking, mountain biking, and themed weekends for mountain bikers, photographers, and art lovers. The reserve promises fond memories that will linger long after the stay at Grootfontein. It is suitable for rustic weekend weddings, with accommodations for 20 people in lodges and plenty of camping spots, with the option of self-catering or assistance from the reserve.
